BREAKFAST ON THE MARSH
Blake Klocke, Indiana DNR
Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 8:30-10 am
NOTE LOCATION CHANGE:
LRWP Office
8315 W Jefferson Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804
The crawfish frog (Lithobates areolatus) is a state endangered species that lives in crayfish burrows near prairie wetlands. This past spring and summer the Indiana DNR and Purdue University raised hundreds of frogs from eggs to reintroduce to areas of the state that the species once lived. During this presentation Blake will share how the team collected crawfish frog eggs, raised tadpoles in artificial ponds, and reintroduced these frogs back into the wild!
Blake is the One Health Biologist at the Indiana DNR. He earned his PhD at George Mason University while researching how to save frogs in Panama with the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. He grew up in Minnesota where he was fascinated by amphibians and reptiles at an early age.
Admission is $8 or free for LRWP members.

BRING YOUR OWN BINOCULARS BIRDING HIKE
Oct 25, 2025, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Eagle Marsh Barn, 6801 Engle Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804
Come and join us for our October bird hike at Eagle Marsh! We will meet at the barn entrance and take the berm trail after passing the barn and pond. The hike will last about 2 hours and cover a total distance of about 2 miles. The trail might be damp in spots, so adequate hiking shoes will be helpful. We will get a chance to see some of our fall residents and maybe even some travelers passing through. The berm trail is great for spotting our area waterfowl, local songbirds, and there is a good chance to spot a bald eagle or two.
