Short Hikes For Short Legs: Animal Tracks and Scat

Join us at Eagle Marsh, 6801 Engle Road, on February 25th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM for an Animal Tracks & Scat adventure. Participants will investigate the signs animals leave behind, including footprints and scat, and learn to identify which creatures call the wetlands home. Dress for the weather and be ready for hands-on outdoor activities. This program is for children aged 3 to 5, accompanied by a responsible adult. RSVPs are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome.

BYO BINOCULARS BIRDING HIKE

Come and join us for our February bird hike at Eagle Marsh! We will meet at the barn entrance and take the berm trail after passing the barn and pond. The hike will last about 2 hours and cover a total distance of about 2 miles. The trail might be damp in spots, so adequate hiking shoes will be helpful. We will get a chance to see some of our winter residents and maybe even some travelers passing through. The berm trail is great for spotting our area birds.

March 31 - Buttonbush Bottoms
Explore all facets of the Arrowhead preserves with a varied group of nature enthusiasts during this free hike. Don't forget to dress appropriately for the weather, and bring binoculars if desired. The starting point every Tuesday but the last in March, June, September and December will Arrowhead Prairie (8624 Aboite Road, Roanoke, IN 46783). On the last Tuesday of the month, meet at Buttonbush Bottoms (8533 Amber Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46814)

Join us on March 12 for Breakfast on the Marsh as the Fort Wayne Zoo shares their work with the Help the Hellbender project. A partner since 2015, the Zoo has supported Eastern hellbender conservation through specialized care, research, and medical treatment, helping return hundreds of hellbenders to Indiana’s rivers. Enjoy breakfast, marsh views, and a look at how local partnerships are making a real impact.
Dr. Kami Alvarado is the Director of Animal Health & Conservation at the Fort Wayne Zoo and has been a veterinarian there since 2013. A graduate of Colorado State University, she developed a passion for amphibian conservation while working with Wyoming toads, which led to her involvement in the Help the Hellbender project since 2015. Dr. Alvarado also serves on the Board of Directors for Pacific Bird Conservation and advises species survival plans for orangutans and Prevost’s squirrels, bringing her veterinary expertise to conservation efforts worldwide.

Peeps, Trills, & Croaks: Frogs of Eagle Marsh
