Join the Little River Ramblers, a group of adult nature enthusiasts, as we explore the everchanging landscapes of Eagle Marsh, Button Bush Bottoms, and our Arrowhead Preserves. Dress appropriately, wear sturdy rain boots, and bring binoculars for wildlife viewing. Experience dynamic outdoor adventures while fostering a deeper connection to nature in our preserves. PUBLIC HIKE - Brush Up On Your Tree ID

Thursday, August 14, 2025, 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Eagle Marsh East - 5013 Engle Road, Fort Wayne

Brush up on your tree ID skills with Racheal Stenger from IDNR Community and Urban Forestry as we explore trees around Eagle Marsh East. The hike is sure to be tree-mendous!


Racheal Stenger has been with the Indiana DNR for 2 years as the outreach coordinator for the Indiana DNR Community and Urban Forestry program within the Division of Forestry. Before the DNR Racheal attended graduate school at Ball State University, where she conducted tree-ring research on an old-growth forest in Delaware County. Racheal loves finding uncommon native plants and camping at state parks and state forests.

SHORT HIKES FOR SHORT LEGS - Tree Identification and Leaf Hunt

Wednesday, August 20, 2025, 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Eagle Marsh Barn, 6801 Engle Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804, USA

Join us at Eagle Marsh, 6801 Engle Road, on August 20th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM for a Tree Identification and Leaf Hunt. Participants will learn to identify local trees and collect leaves during a nature walk. Please dress for the weather. This event is for children aged 3 to 5, with a responsible adult. RSVPs are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome.

Discover how you can make a difference in your own backyard! This interactive workshop will introduce you to the benefits of rain gardens as a Best Management Practice (BMP) for improving water quality and managing stormwater.


You'll learn:

  • What a rain garden is and how it works

  • Tips for planting and maintaining your own rain garden

  • Available City incentives for installing a rain garden on your property

  • By creating beautiful, eco-friendly landscapes, we can help conserve water, support local ecosystems, and build a more sustainable Fort Wayne—starting right at home.

Wild Edibles Hike with Carrie Vrabel

Eagle Marsh East | August 23rd, 10 am - 12 pm


Explore Indiana’s edible wild plants and mushrooms with expert forager and state-certified mushroom ID specialist Carrie Vrabel. Carrie teaches across the state, runs Wild Edible Indiana, and is currently writing a book on Indiana’s native wild edibles. On this guided hike, you’ll learn to identify edible plants and fungi, hear about their traditional uses, and gain insight into their ecological roles.


Note: No foraging is allowed at Eagle Marsh. It is a protected nature preserve and all plants, fungi, and wildlife must remain untouched.


Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Spots may be limited so register early!

$20 Admission, $10 for LRWP Members
