Preserves Manager Job Description

 

Position Summary

The Preserves Manager is a part-time position responsible for developing and executing land management plans for LRWP nature preserves.  This position reports to the Executive Director.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop annual and multi-year management plans to control invasive species and improve biodiversity on  LRWP nature preserves

  • Ensure development of, and compliance with, Compatible Use Authorizations, as required by DNR or NRCS, to ensure compliance with conservation standards.

  • Perform annual monitoring of conservation easement boundaries.

  • Work collaboratively with other LRWP stewardship staff and community volunteers to ensure land management plans are executed.

  • Assist with invasive species treatment and other restoration work.

  • Manage all third-party contract work

  • Assist in developing the annual restoration budget 

 

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Undergraduate degree or specialized training in natural resource management or a related field

  • Minimum of three years of restoration field experience, preferably in a wetland habitat

  • Minimum three years of experience in land management

  • Proficient in the use and maintenance of sprayers and light power equipment

  • Indiana Pesticide Applicator License, Category 5 preferred

  • Experience with GIS and GPS

  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite

 

Working Conditions

  • The work will involve a combination of office-based tasks and working in various weather conditions.

  • Ability to hike up to 2 miles and carry 30 pounds over uneven terrain

 

Hours, Compensation, and Benefits

  • Part-time, 10-15 hours per week average, with seasonal variations

  • Hourly compensation

  • Flexible schedule
